Welcome Evening Tonight

Welcome Evening
Tuesday, 11 September
7 – 8.30 pm All Saints, Waltham

This is a chance to meet up with others in the community, to learn more about what’s going on in the church and in the community. There will be wine & nibbles, information about events (please feel free to bring your own fliers if you’d like to share news on something), and no agenda other than getting to know each other better. This event is aimed more at adults than children, but children are always welcome in the Waltham Group.

Accidental Saints

Accidental Saints
Celebrating Kindness & Courage

Do you know someone in our community who does amazing things?
Do you know someone who does quite ordinary things, extraordinarily well?

This year, we want to celebrate Accidental Saints:
people of all ages who give us hope and courage, just by being who they are.

We’ll be celebrating our newly minted Saints on All Saints weekend: 1 – 4 November. The best bit of the party will be on Sunday, 4 November when we name the Accidental Saints for 2018, and hand out halos (and cake).

To Nominate a Saint, you can fill out a form online at http://bit.ly/AccidentalSaints2018.

There are paper nomination forms at All Saints Church, Waltham and at St Matthew’s, New Waltham.

In October, there will be art workshops, and story sharing times, and discussion groups on Nadia Bolz Webber’s wonderful book, Accidental Satins.  Sign up for Waltham Group News to receive more information, or just keep an eye on the Facebook page.

Begin to Belong

Ever wondered how you join the church?

In England, everyone is born into a parish — there’s a church that’s yours, just down the street. But knowing how to join in is a different thing.  You can drop in any time — for a service, for an event — or just for a bit of quiet when the church is open. But if you’d like to get more involved, here’s a road map to get you started:

Fill out a Welcome Card

Or, you can find a paper version in church.

Come to a Welcome Evening.

Welcome evenings take place in September and January.  They’re a chance to meet people and learn more about what’s going on.

The next Welcome Evening is on Tuesday, 11 September at 7 pm at All Saints, Waltham.

Join a Small Group

Small Groups are a great way to get to know people, and to learn more about Christian Faith. Each group meets for just a few weeks, and explores a particular topic.

Make a Commitment to Worship

The hardest thing about worship is getting around to doing it. Experience teaches that it’s a whole lot easier if you decide once, and just keep holding yourself to the decision.  No one is going to ask you what your plans are — but for your own sake, decide what you want, and then stick to it.  Commit to Worship.

Find a Place to Serve

Sometimes we grow just by joining in and doing what’s needed. There are a thousand ways to get involved, and make the community stronger for everyone.  Find a Place to Serve.

Find a Way to Give

Faith is about learning to trust that there is enough — food, friendship, money, meaning, kindness, love — God gives us all that we need. And so, we give back. If you are ready to help support the work of the church by financial giving, please get in touch, tell us which church you would like to support, and we’ll send you the information you need.

Autumn Small Groups 2018

Small Groups are a great way to get to know people and to grow in faith. Groups meet for just a few weeks to explore a specific topic.  Each term (Autumn, Winter, Spring) you can sign up for a new group, and learn new things.

Please use this form to Sign Up for Autumn 2018 Groups.

God Talk

Two evenings (come to one or both) of ‘no agenda’ conversation about God at All Saints, Waltham.

Tuesday, 18 September (7 – 8.30 pm) — God Talk for Grownups
We’ll have wine & nibbles and some conversation starters. You come with questions, challenges, ideas.

Tuesday, 25 September (7 – 8.30 pm) — God Talk for Kids
This one is really for adults who have kids (or Grandkids) who ask awkward questions. Our goal is not to give you answers, but to help you feel more confident in managing the conversations. We’ll have wine, nibbles, and resources. You come with kids’ questions, challenges & ideas.

Accidental Saints

“Sometimes the fact that there is nothing about you that makes you the right person to do something is exactly what God is looking for..”

— Nadia Bolz Weber, Accidental Saints

The divide between saint and sinner is a whole lot messier than we like to think. This autumn we’ll let Nadia Bolz Weber help us find Saints in all the wrong places, and see what God’s doing in our own mixed-up lives.

Tuesday mornings at 10 am — Oct 2, 9 & 16, All Saints Waltham Church Hall.
Thursday evenings at 7.30 pm – Oct 4, 11, 18, St Matthew’s, New Waltham

Art Workshops

Budding Picasso? Can’t draw a line? It doesn’t matter which. This community art project is for everyone. You are welcome to come to one workshop or all three. Abby Turner will lead us as we play around with colour, ideas and emotions (and art supplies!).

This is part of our Accidental Saints project, as we celebrate the good in the people around us.

Saturday afternoons at 3.30 pm — Oct 6, 13, 20, St Matthew’s, New Waltham

Experience Advent

Advent is as counter-cultural as it gets. While the world starts Christmas earlier each year, the church says, ‘Wait. We need a bit of quiet first. Christmas is coming, but not yet.’  But how on earth do you find peace in the chaos of December?

Experience Advent invites you into a paradox: by giving up a bit of time for Advent, you’ll get more time back to enjoy the wonder of Christmas.

The time of meetings is yet to be set — so if you think you’d like to join in, let us know now what’s best for you. The sign up form gives you a chance to suggest times.

Don’t forget to Sign Up for Autumn Groups so we can make enough cake…
