Knicker Bunting

From 10 – 20 May, the communities of Waltham and New Waltham are coming together to support Women’s Aid. One in four women in England experience domestic violence at some point in their lives. One in seven men do too. And many of the victims are children.

When people flee to refuge they often have nothing. Just to get through the first day, they need clothes and toothbrushes and new underwear. And the children need something to do, to keep them calm: colouring books, paper, pens…

There are all kinds of ways to support Women’s Aid, but this is our focus for 10 – 20 May. We are collecting new knickers — for women, for boys, for girls — and we are collecting craft supplies.

Wherever you see the knicker bunting flying, there is a collection point. There are collection points at:

  • All Saints, Waltham
  • St Matthew’s, New Waltham
  • The primary schools: The Leas, New Waltham Academy, Enfield Academy
  • Waltham Parish Council office
  • New Waltham Community Centre
  • The Tin Jug
  • The Kings Head
  • The Farmhouse
  • Veronica’s
  • Waltham Unipart
  • Cottingham’s pharmacy (Waltham)

Prayer Stations

During the 10 days there will also be prayer stations in New Waltham. The prayer stations will give us a chance to explore thoughts and emotions about identity, courage, healing, risk-taking and living life more fully. There will be space for reflection & meditation, as well as lots of things to do — a collaborative art project, crafts, activities, tea & cake.
